Why Choose Chiropractic?

We treat the problem, not just the symptoms.

At the heart of the chiropractic philosophy is this simple wisdom: treat the problem itself, not just the symptoms. If you only look at the symptoms, the underlying problem is still there and will keep coming back until it's treated.

Chiropractic care is an effective method of treatment for many people who suffer from back pain, neck pain, headaches and other neuromusculoskeletal disorders.

The science of chiropractic centers around the body's spine. The spine houses and protects the spinal cord, which is the "switchboard" through which nerve impulses are transmitted from the brain to all parts of the body. In the event of an injury, misaligned vertebrae can interfere with nerve transmissions, inhibit mobility and cause pain or discomfort. Chiropractic treatment realigns the vertebrae so the nerve impulses are not restricted. When the spine is properly aligned, the cause of pain and malfunction is removed, and the body will return to normal.

We take the time to listen.

Dr. Meyer has been trained to evaluate your total health picture and will ask questions about your lifestyle and work habits during consultation. This allows him to focus on the core problem and causes. While the first goal is to relieve pain, the larger goal is to restore good health. Good health cannot be attributed solely to medication, surgery, or chiropractic adjustments. Good health comes from a healthy lifestyle and proper spinal function.

Dr. Meyer carefully assesses each patient by using modern diagnostic procedures. Treatment generally focuses on manual spinal manipulation, also called chiropractic adjustment. In some cases, therapy is also used to provide relief and speed healing.

Chiropractic care helps millions of people get relief from pain.

Studies show that chiropractic care is twice as effective as medical treatment in returning workers to the workplace following a back injury. The Agency for Health Care Policy Research guidelines recommend the use of spinal manipulation for acute low back problems over any other treatment.

Chiropractic care is affordable.

Dr. Meyer is concerned about costs. His goal is to deliver excellent care at reasonable costs. Chiropractic care gets results faster and is generally less expensive than other medical treatments. Per-visit costs are generally lower for chiropractors than for other providers.

We are select providers for Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Preferred One, HealthPartners, Medica, Minnesota Health Care Program and Medicare. If you are unsure of your coverage, we will be happy to contact your insurance company to check for you.

What should I expect at the initial visit?

Patient History - Dr. Meyer will discuss the nature and extent of your condition with you to determine if chiropractic care is an appropriate treatment for the condition. If chiropractic care is not suitable for your condition, we readily refer patients to the appropriate health care provider.

Physical Exam - Orthopedic, neurological and spinal examination, as well as posture analysis, are performed to determine general health status and specific problems.

X-rays - May be utilized to further assess the health condition if necessary.

Surface EMG - Myovision is used to assess the muscle-tension state of the patient, without requiring exercise or strenuous activity which may be harmful.

Diagnosis - Based on history, examination and X-ray/lab findings.

Treatment Plan - A personal treatment plan will be developed for you. Treatment methods, along with spinal manipulation, may include ultrasound, electrical stimulation and controlled exercise. It may also include lifestyle counseling, such as providing exercises aimed at building flexibility, strength and overall well-being.
